Today marks a major milestone in the world of legal technology—Lexiana AI is officially live and available to the broader public. After years of research, development, testing, and refinement, our cutting-edge AI-powered legal assistant is now accessible to legal professionals, law firms, and businesses seeking to streamline their workflows and enhance their legal research capabilities.
Developed by Terlouw Artificial Intelligence in collaboration with terlouw.legal, Lexiana AI is designed to bridge the gap between artificial intelligence and the legal profession. By leveraging state-of-the-art machine learning and natural language processing, Lexiana AI provides lawyers and legal teams with instant access to complex legal insights, contract analysis, and compliance recommendations.
As we unveil Lexiana AI to the public, we take a moment to reflect on the journey that brought us here. From the earliest conceptualization in 2022 to the rigorous beta testing phases of 2024, every step in our development process was driven by a singular mission: to redefine how legal professionals interact with technology and provide them with an AI system that understands the law the way they do.
The origins of Lexiana AI – A vision for the future of legal tech
The journey of Lexiana AI began in april 2022, when the team at Terlouw Artificial Intelligence recognized the need for a smarter, AI-powered solution to assist legal professionals. Traditional legal research tools, while powerful, still required extensive manual effort. AI had already begun transforming industries such as healthcare and finance, but the legal field remained largely reliant on time-intensive research and human expertise.
The question we asked ourselves was simple: Could AI learn to think like a lawyer?
Over the following months, we explored existing legal technology solutions and identified key areas where AI could make a meaningful impact. The legal profession relies on precision, reasoning, and contextual understanding—three elements that most AI models at the time struggled to master. Our goal was to create a system that could do more than just retrieve information; we wanted an AI that could analyze, interpret, and assist in decision-making.
This early research laid the foundation for what would eventually become Lexiana AI.
April 2023 – The official introduction of Lexiana AI
One year after the initial concept was born, Lexiana AI was officially announced in April 2023 as the future of AI-powered legal research and analysis. At this stage, the AI was still in its infancy, but it had already demonstrated the ability to understand complex legal texts, identify key precedents, and assist in contract analysis.
The announcement generated excitement in the legal tech community. Could AI truly understand law? Could it assist lawyers without replacing their expertise? The possibilities were intriguing, and we knew the next step would be rigorous testing in real-world legal environments.
By mid-2023, our team had developed a robust AI model trained on case law, statutes, and legal principles. However, we recognized that legal AI had to be more than just an information retrieval system—it had to provide meaningful insights that a lawyer could rely on.
To achieve this, we needed input from real legal professionals. This led us to the private beta phase.
January 2024 – Launch of the private beta program
To refine Lexiana AI’s capabilities, we launched a private beta program in january 2024. This phase allowed a select group of lawyers, in-house legal teams, and compliance officers to test Lexiana AI in real-world scenarios.
During this period, Lexiana AI was used for:
- Legal research – Automating the process of finding relevant case law and statutes.
- Contract analysis – Identifying potential risks and inconsistencies in legal documents.
- Compliance checks – Ensuring that corporate policies aligned with regulatory requirements.
Through this beta, we gathered invaluable feedback that shaped Lexiana AI’s ability to:
- Understand legal nuances and context.
- Provide accurate and relevant case law citations.
- Assist in cross-jurisdictional legal research, starting with Dutch and Spanish law.
Despite the progress made, there were challenges that required additional development. The initial plan was to launch a public beta in mid-2024, but due to AI resource limitations and the need for further model refinement, we adjusted our timeline.
March 2024 – Preparing for public access
By March 2024, Lexiana AI had undergone significant improvements, including:
- Enhanced contextual legal analysis to interpret complex statutes and case law.
- A more sophisticated risk assessment system for contract review.
- Improved AI response accuracy and reliability.
We were ready to take Lexiana AI to the next stage—public access. However, due to overwhelming demand and the high computational costs associated with running AI models at scale, we made the decision to roll out access gradually rather than launching an unrestricted public beta.
This ensured that the system remained stable, secure, and effective for early adopters.
February 14, 2025 – Lexiana AI is officially live!
And now, after years of development, testing, and refinement, Lexiana AI is available to the broader public.
Starting today, law firms, legal departments, and compliance teams can apply for access to integrate Lexiana AI into their workflows. However, due to computational and resource constraints, access will be provided in controlled phases to ensure that the system operates efficiently.
Lexiana AI is not just a tool—it’s the future of legal intelligence. By providing instant access to legal research, contract analysis, and compliance support, we empower legal professionals to work smarter, faster, and more efficiently.
Looking ahead – The future of Lexiana AI
While today’s launch is a significant milestone, it is just the beginning. Our vision for Lexiana AI extends far beyond its current capabilities. In the coming months, we plan to:
- Expand jurisdictional coverage beyond Dutch and Spanish law.
- Improve AI-powered litigation support for case prediction and strategy analysis.
- Integrate Lexiana AI with legal research databases and document management systems.
Our commitment remains clear: to build the most advanced, reliable, and accessible AI-driven legal assistant for professionals worldwide.
